We're ready to begin building our page. Evolve gives you sections, rows, and columns to build with, reflecting the structure used in other common web development tools. This is how we will lay out the content within our page.
Let's add our first section. We can either do that from the Sections menu in the right-hand column, or using the button on the stage. We can then choose from a menu of Section options, including built-in templates such as text layouts (with or without images), question, and interactive templates, and also a choice of blank areas with different column and row layouts. We can also use search to find the section we want by name, narrowing down the options. We will go ahead and add a basic text and image style section first.
The template adds one row and two columns into the section, with the left column containing our text, and the right holding an image frame for us to fill. Items such as text and images are called elements within Evolve, and we place elements inside columns to display the content we want. We can include both interactive and display elements, to convey our information in the most appropriate way.
It's so easy to update and add text to an Evolve page. We just choose where we want to type or paste and then do it. The text element has given us entries for both a heading and a paragraph but we don't have to keep both, or we can add more of one or both as needed. While we are editing text this handy toolbar appears. Here we can adjust alignment, formatting, color, and more. We can also add tables to our text boxes from here.
Once the text is as we want it , we'll add in our image, by clicking the placeholder in the image element. We can then choose between adding an image from a web address, or from your library. The library refers to either an image stored on your computer that you want to upload, or one that has already been uploaded to your Evolve asset library. If we choose to upload an image, we will be able to drag the file in from an Explorer window or click in the box and select from our computer. Once we locate and select the image we need, it will be uploaded, and then displayed along with its dimensions and title. To confirm the image, we just select 'Done'. That image will now be part of your Asset Library and can be used again in any course.
To build out our page further, we just continue adding sections, rows, columns, and elements as needed. Let's start with columns. Choosing any existing column will display a menu. From here you can select 'Add', and then choose ' Column'. This will create a new column, always placing it to the right of any existing ones. You can add up to four columns in any row this way. Columns can be moved around by selecting them and using the right, left, up, or down buttons. They can also be duplicated and deleted within this menu. The positions of columns and rows can be changed using the settings menu on the right. For example, in this row with two columns, we can just grab and drag them to switch their order.
There's also an alternative way to add columns here in the settings menu. This breadcrumb trail can be used to go back to section level to add more rows, or even page level to add more sections.
You can have as many sections as you need, and as many rows as you like within each of them.
