Outline
Community — available as an app within Intellum Social — allows learners to interact with each other and find answers to their most common questions.
In this article, we’ll cover enabling Community from the admin perspective. We'll also cover how you can create and edit topic sections and topics.
Enabling Community
Community is included in your subscription to Intellum Social. If you currently use Social and want to enable Community for your organization, please contact an Intellum representative.
Community Settings
As an admin, you can adjust Community settings such as user access in the Social tab of the Settings page. To learn more, please read this article:

Accessing Community Topics
The Intellum platform helps you organize your community conversations using topic sections within which you add specific topics. In turn, each topic you create will contain relevant questions from users. To create and edit topic sections and topics, navigate to the Community Topics page by clicking your profile image > Admin > Community.
Overview
As you create topic sections and topics with various settings, you will see different icons appear on the Community Topics page. Here is an overview of what each icon means.
- An enabled topic section: Users can see this topic section in Community. Individual topics can also be enabled.
- Question count: This number indicates how many questions have been asked under a topic section/topic.
- A featured topic: This topic appears in the Featured Topics row at the top of the Community home page.
- A restricted topic section: Only certain groups of users can see this topic section. Individual topics can also be restricted.
- A disabled topic section: Users cannot see this topic section in Community. Individual topics can also be disabled. All topic sections and topics are disabled when first created.
- "New" notification: This notification will briefly appear next to a newly created topic section or topic.
- Move topic section/topic: Move a topic section or topic by clicking the six dots icon and dragging it to a new location. The order of topic sections and topics on this page determines the order they are presented in Community.
- Dropdown arrow: Reveal or hide the list of topics in a section by clicking the arrow to the left.
Creating Topic Sections & Topics
Create a New Topic Section
If you're creating a topic section for the first time, click the + icon to the left of the default Untitled Section and then Add New Section.
You can then repeat the process to create additional topic sections, except now you can click the + icon to the left of any existing topic section or topic. New topic sections will always appear at the bottom of the topic section list.
When creating a new topic section, a menu will appear. Within this menu, add a title and an optional description for your topic section.
To further adjust a topic section's settings, either click on the topic section name, or click the three dots icon to the right and then Edit. A menu will appear where you can adjust the following:
Section Title: Edit the title for your topic section.
Section Description: Edit the description for your topic section.
Enable in Community: Click this option to display this topic section in your community.
Restrict this section: Click this option to restrict the topics in this section to be seen by specific groups.
Remember to click Save Changes when you are done editing.
Heads Up!
Topic sections will not appear in the Community UI unless there are at least two topic sections, with at least one topic in a section containing one question. Once these minimum requirements are met, refresh the Community home page to see the topic sections.
Create a New Topic
If you're creating a topic for the first time, you can click the + icon to the left of the default Untitled Section and then Add New Topic. Or, you can click the + Create a Topic button at the bottom of the page. After you've created your first topic, the + Create a Topic button will disappear.
To add a topic to a topic section, click the + icon to the left of either the topic section or an existing topic in the section. Then, click Add New Topic to create a topic. New topics will always appear at the bottom of the list.
When creating a new topic, a menu will appear. Within this menu, add a title and an optional description for your topic.
To further adjust a topic's settings, either click on the topic name, or click the three dots icon to the right and then Edit. A menu will appear where you can adjust the following:
Topic Title: Edit the title for your topic.
Topic Description: Edit the description for your topic.
Enable in Community: Click this option to display this topic in your community.
Add to Featured Topics: Click this option to display this topic in the Featured Topics row.
Featured Position: Choose where this topic will be displayed in the Featured Topics row. To note, you can choose a position, 1-5, only if you have clicked “Add to Featured Topics.”
Topic Cover Image: Upload a cover image for your featured topic. To note, a cover image will only display if you have clicked “Add to Featured Topics.”
Add a moderator: Select specific users to become moderators for a topic. Moderators can keep track of and delete content users have flagged.
Restrict this topic: Click this option to restrict this topic to be seen by specific groups.
Remember to click Save Changes when you are done editing.
Heads Up!
Topics will not appear in the Community UI unless they have at least one question in them. Once the minimum one question has been asked, refresh the Community home page to see the topic.
Managing Topic Sections & Topics
You can edit, duplicate, or delete a topic section or topic by clicking the three dots icon to the right of the topic section/topic's name and then clicking the desired option.
Duplicating Topic Sections & Topics
When you duplicate a topic section or topic, a menu will appear that is identical to the one you filled out when first creating the topic section/topic. The description of the copy will be identical, but "Copy of" will appear before the title.
Please note that a duplicated topic section will not duplicate the original's topics. Likewise, a duplicated topic will not duplicate the original's questions.
Deleting Topic Sections & Topics
When deleting a topic section or topic, a prompt will appear confirming if you wish to proceed. Click Delete Section or Delete Topic again. All topics in a section and all questions in a topic will be lost.
You can also delete a topic section or topic via the Edit menu. Please note that if you delete a topic section or topic this way, you will have to disable the topic section/topic first.
